Peterborough teens charged after theft at Hunter Street laundromat

Peterborough Police Report Theft Arrests: Two Peterborough teens have been charged following a theft at a Hunter Street laundromat. On June 29, 2017 police were contacted regarding the theft of surveillance video cameras from a laundromat on Hunter Street that had occurred the day before. Through the investigation two males suspects were identified. As a result of the investigation on August 6, 2017 a 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested at a Water Street address and charged with theft under $5,000. Peterborough man facing additional fraud charges, police believe there may be more victims

A 29-year-old Peterborough man is facing additional fraud charges after several more victims came forward to police. Through further investigation it was revealed that between January 2017 and July 2017 the accused defrauded several other persons he knows of postsecondary tuition funds and also convinced several of the victims to pay into an investment scam. As a result of the investigation Gaurav Paul, 29, of Applewood Crescent, Peterborough, is additionally charged with fraud under $5,000 X4. The investigation is ongoing. The Peterborough Police Service launched a postcard campaign aimed at getting crucial fraud prevention messaging directly into people’s homes. Our Service has done a lot of messaging and education around the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam yet we are still being inundated with calls from citizens reporting this fraud,” says Detective Constable Keith Calderwood, Peterborough Police Service Fraud Unit. “The scammers involved are extremely aggressive and convincing.
