St. Catherine Catholic Elementary School’s Sylvie Copland has received $2,500 for school programming and supplies as a top winner of the 10th annual Canadian Family Teacher Awards. Sylvie was presented with her winning prize money, an enlarged cheque, as well as other prizes during an award ceremony at her home school.
The Teacher Awards is a national program whereby teachers were nominated by members of their community; a panel of education experts then shortlisted 12 finalists and an online vote determined three winners. Out of the 327,500 votes cast this year, over 62,000 were in Sylvie’s favour.
Sylvie teaches Kindergarten at St. Catherine Catholic Elementary School and was recognized for her kind and loving nature. Her teaching philosophy focuses on encouraging her students to take risks, be charitable, and to love and respect all. Her caring nature is also demonstrated through her annual fundraisers where she raises awareness and foreign aid funds for children threatened by malaria.
