Charlotte Street Renewal Project
Event date: Tuesday, September 19, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: Sutherland Room, City Hall
The City of Peterborough is inviting the general public to view and provide comments regarding the proposed design concept for the renewal of Charlotte Street between Aylmer Street and Water Street in the Downtown.
Presentation drawings, supporting documents, a project phasing plan and a preliminary cost estimate will be available to view. A “Flexible Street” design is proposed where a system of portable bollards will be used to allow street parking in the winter, but are moved to the outer limit of the parking spaces in the summer, effectively widening the sidewalk space to permit temporary uses such as sidewalk cafes. The design is intended to be compatible with the Urban Park, allowing the closure of Charlotte Street to vehicular traffic between Aylmer Street and George Street when events involving large numbers of people are taking place.
The Consultant and City Staff will be at the Open House to answer questions and hear any concerns you may have.
You are welcome to provide comment at the meeting, either verbally or in writing, which will be considered with any modifications that are made to the plan.
The renewal of Charlotte Street between Aylmer Street and Water Street is part of the Urban Park at Louis Street Project and is a key strategy of the Central Area Master Plan. The strategy seeks to create a permanent public gathering place in the Downtown for the benefit of the entire community.
