Peterborough Police Part of Provincial Human Trafficking Outreach Through Operation Northern Spotlight

Members of police services throughout Ontario, including the Peterborough Police Service, were able to ensure the safety of 6 people who had been working in the sex trade and were in exploitive situations, including 2 under the age of 16. Additionally, 12 people were charged with 21 offences as part of Operation Northern Spotlight, a coordinated, national effort to end human trafficking. Theft of Motor Vehicle Arrest A 34-year-old Peterborough woman is facing theft charges following an investigation involving a stolen U-Haul. On September 12, 2017 police received a call from the U-Haul head office in Toronto reporting that one of their rental trucks had been stolen. It was reported that the vehicle, rented on August 17, 2017 in Peterborough and due back the next day, was never returned on time and the customer failed to make any further payments. Be watchful for counterfeit bills The Peterborough Police Service is warning businesses and the general public to be watchful for counterfeit bills currently circulating in our area. The bills, that may at first glance appear as Canadian currency, have identifiable Chinese characters marked on them. If your Canadian cash has Chinese writing on it, it’s a fake.
