4th Line Theatre is pleased to announce that the not-for-profit performing arts organization was selected by regional Member of Parliament, Jamie Schmale, to receive the Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock Canada 150 Award. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation, Mr. Schmale called for nominations to recognize the individuals and organizations who “play an outstanding and active role within our community.” Nominations were submitted over the past two months and in early September, 4th Line Theatre was named as one of eight recipients from the township of Cavan Monaghan.

4th Line’s Managing Artistic Director Kim Blackwell and Founder and Creative Director Robert Winslow accepted the award in a ceremony in the council’s chambers of the Cavan Monaghan Municipal Office on the morning of October 12, 2017. Blackwell is honoured that 4th Line Theatre stands among an exclusive group of community builders, volunteers and cultural leaders. “4th Line strives to reflect, nurture and celebrate the unique culture of our region,” states Blackwell, “it is an honour to be recognized with this award and to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the people who make our community such a special place.”

For 26 seasons 4th Line Theatre has been bringing history to life on the barnyard stages of a rustic 5th generation farm in Millbrook Ontario, between Peterborough and Port Hope.  Founded in 1992 by Creative Director Robert Winslow, this outdoor theatre company is committed to preserving our Canadian cultural heritage through the development and presentation of environmentally-staged historical drama. In 2014, Winslow’s longtime collaborator Kim Blackwell took on the role of Managing Artistic Director as Winslow transitioned into the position of Creative Director. Blackwell has been instrumental in defining the 4th Line aesthetic and works tirelessly to give audiences one of the finest theatrical experiences in the country. “These productions,” says Blackwell, “celebrate the history of the area; they are stories with national echoes.”

This magical theatre presents unforgettable outdoor, epic theatrical experiences.  Thousands of visitors, young and old alike fall in love with our farm experience complete with picnics, birdsong and sunsets in the country. Create a truly unique experience with a picnic lunch, a performance and an overnight stay at a local country inn or bed and breakfast, for yourself or as a gift.

Since 1992 the company has developed and presented 27 original plays based on regional history and culture and presented in various locations on the farm, including barnyard, fields, woods and clearings.  4th Line Theatre’s mandate is to “preserve and promote our Canadian cultural heritage through the development and presentation of regionally-based, environmentally-stages historical dramas.”

4th Line Theatre will announce its 2018 summer season programming later this month.
