The Elizabeth Fry Society of Peterborough recently announced its third Rebel with a Cause fundraiser event which will take place on March 20th from 5:00 – 8:00pm at the Canadian Canoe Museum. Back after a short hiatus, the Rebel with a Cause event pays tribute to local women who have been active in gender and criminal justice issues. The evening gala will include appetizers, live music, a silent auction, cash bar, prizes and spoken word performance. Three Women will be honoured at this year’s event: Ruth Schaeffer, Frances Adams, and Dawn Mcllmoyle. More Information about the honourees, the musicians and all event contributors can be found on the Elizabeth Fry Website and the Eventbrite page

Set to become Elizabeth Fry Peterborough’s yearly flagship fundraiser event, Rebel with a Cause is a way both to give recognition to women from the local community engaged in valuable social justice work, and to support the Elizabeth Fry mandate. Elizabeth Fry is a not-for-profit organization which engages in advocacy and provides services to women who have been victimized, marginalized, criminalized and/or institutionalized. Fundraisers such as the Rebel with a Cause event are essential to Elizabeth Fry’s capacity to continue providing relevant and gender responsive programming for women who are, have been, or are at risk of being in conflict with the criminal justice system.

“We are incredibly excited to be re-introducing the Rebel with a Cause event and look forward to cultivating its success over the years to come. It is an event that has fostered important community connections in the past and we hope it will continue to evolve to galvanize the community around gender issues in a variety of ways,” remarks Elizabeth Fry Executive Director, Debbie Carriere. “We are so thankful for all the support we have had in organizing this event and in particular to our sponsors, without which this wouldn’t be possible.” Everyone is welcome to attend the event. Tickets can be purchased for $40 from the Eventbrite page and all attendees will receive a $30 charitable tax receipt.
