RGC’s hit show GAME BRAiN is making thousands of students across Ontario aware of the risks of gambling

Whether it’s a friendly game of poker after school, sports betting or even bingo, teens are often not aware of the risks of gambling or even that what they are doing is a form of gambling. To help raise awareness, The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) is touring high schools across Ontario for a fourth year with its hit show – GAME BRAiN.

“We are pleased to bring back this awareness program to students across the province”, says Kevin Noel, COO of RGC. “Studies show that compared to adults, young people are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop a gambling problem. GAME BRAiN educates students about the dangers of gambling, before it becomes a problem.”

Hosted by Jason Agnew and Matt Chin of YTV’s “Splatalot”, the innovative game show format has received top marks from thousands of students and faculty across Ontario. Through interactive games, students become aware of the realities of gambling, the often hard to recognize signs of a problem, and the help resources that are available.

“Teens are increasingly exposed to the world of gambling”, says Jason Agnew, host of GAME BRAiN. “Our show is a lot of fun but students also take away some really important messages. Students always come up after the show and tell us how some of the facts and misconceptions they learned about gambling will make them think differently.”

This year, GAME BRAiN will also be running a contest on social media to help spread the awareness message to students who do not get the chance to see the live show. The contest offered in English and French, will give Ontario students a chance to win a gift certificate from Amazon.ca to help with the costs of school.
