Peterborough Police report that Distracted driving is still the number one offence during a recent traffic blitz.
The Peterborough Police Service’s Traffic Management Unit is conducting a number of traffic blitzes throughout the summer to crack down on distracted driving.
On Tuesday June 21, 2016 the Peterborough Police Service’s Traffic Management Unit conducted a Summer Safety Blitz Traffic Detail at a number of the top ten intersections in the City with the highest number of collisions.
As a result of the detail, 32 tickets were issued, of which 19 were for distracted driving (cell phone use).
“Distracted driving offences have not decreased. Unfortunately distracted driving is still very prevalent in our community,” states Traffic Sergeant Jeff Chartier.
“We will be conducting several traffic details throughout the summer in the hope of increasing road safety.”
