First Human Case of West Nile Virus

August 18, 2017 – Residents Reminded to Take Precautions Today Peterborough Public Health officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) acquired locally. “With confirmation of our first human case of the season, we encourage residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of West Nile virus in our area,” said Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health.  “The wet summer is giving mosquitoes more places to breed, so we urge residents to keep their properties clean of standing water and brush and protect themselves from mosquito bites.”…

Peterborough man facing additional fraud charges, police believe there may be more victims

A 29-year-old Peterborough man is facing additional fraud charges after several more victims came forward to police. Through further investigation it was revealed that between January 2017 and July 2017 the accused defrauded several other persons he knows of postsecondary tuition funds and also convinced several of the victims to pay into an investment scam. As a result of the investigation Gaurav Paul, 29, of Applewood Crescent, Peterborough, is additionally charged with fraud under $5,000 X4. The investigation is ongoing. West Nile Virus Confirmed in Local Mosquitoes

Peterborough Public Health (PPH) is advising the public that mosquitoes in the City of Peterborough have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).  The mosquitoes were trapped from July 17 to 19, 2017.
